'The Garbage People'. 2009
Photographs of the 'Zabaleen' (Garbage People) who live on the outskirts of Cairo and make a relatively good living by collecting and recycling the city's rubbish. As members of Egypt's christian minority they also used to earn money by raising pigs on the waste. At the time of this project, the Zabaleen felt they were being persecuted by the Egyptian government, who had irrationally ordered the slaughter of all the pigs on the false basis that they spread swine flu.
